Christian Fittipaldi, Meira claim Granja Viana win

Christian Fittipaldi and fellow former Indy car racer Vitor Meira and their Team Fittipaldi teammates claimed victory in the 19th 500 Milhas de Kart Granja Viana at the Limeira circuit in Brazil.

The No. 2 Fittipaldi team, which consisted of Fittipaldi, Danilo Dirani, Dennis Dirani, Meira, Ruben Carrapatoso and Yurik Carvalho, won the 500-mile kart race. The team’s sister kart, the No. 1 driven by the same group, finished second, 41 seconds back and the only other kart to complete the 644 laps when it was stopped by the 12-hour time limit.

It was the second consecutive win for Fittipaldi, Meira, and Danilo Dirani, who were part of the winning Fittipaldi team in 2014 at Beto Carerra World. It was the sixth win for Fittipaldi, fourth overall for Meira and third for Dirani.

The #777 Bifarma.com kart, one of four entered by the team led by Verizon IndyCar Series star Tony Kanaan, was third, two laps down to the winning team. Kanaan, who drove several karts including the primary No. 77 kart for Bifarma.com, finished eighth in a kart shared with Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Giaffone among others.
