Change Racing, O’Gara Motorsport Claim Titles in Lamborghini World Final at Sebring

Change Racing and O’Gara Motorsport – preparing for their debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – combined for three world championships at last weekend’s Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final at Sebring International Raceway.

Corey Lewis (Pro-Am) and Jake Rattenbury (Gallardo Pro-Am) from Carolina/Change Racing joined Vancouver/O’Gara Motorsport’s Ryan Ockey (Am) in being crowned world champions. They were joined by Patrick Kujala (Pro) and Brandon Gdovic (Gallardo Pro-Am and Am) in winning titles.

More than 65 cars from around the globe competed in the event, which ended a season of continued growth for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe, Asia and North America. The highlight of 2015 was the debut of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo car in all three series.

For 2016, Lamborghini also will compete in the WeatherTech Championship, joining the competitive GT Daytona (GTD) class. Change Racing and O’Gara Motorsport join Paul Miller Racing with full-seasons with the new Huracán GT3, while German-based Konrad Motorsport plans to compete in the four Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup races.

The four-day event at Sebring was the third annual World Final but the first in North America, and Sebring International Raceway provided the perfect backdrop. The historic, 3.74-mile, 17-turn circuit is America’s oldest road racing venue, with more than six decades of storied history and home to the famed Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida.

Lewis stormed the Pro-Am Class, winning both races in the World Final. He also added a pair of victories to his Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Pro-Am championship on Friday. The Pennsylvanian ended the year by winning 10 straight races in the Pro-Am class in the North American season.

“Winning the world title is simply unbelievable,” Lewis said. “The support received throughout the season by my team, Carolinas/Change Racing, was the key for my success. In the grand scheme of things, it’s been a ground-breaking year for me.

“It’s been a busy year, not only in the Lamborghini but in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with Matt Dicken, Strategic Wealth Racing and Goldcrest Motorsports. Now, I’m looking forward to 2016, coming back with Matt in the Continental Tire Challenge and hopefully to drive the new Huracán GT3 with Change Racing in the WeatherTech Championship.”

Prior to winning the world title, Ockey clinched the Am driver championship of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series. He finished first in Race 1 and second in Race 2 in the World Final.

“After having won the North American title, there could not be a better ending,” Ockey said. “Both races were amazing with plenty of action and tough rivals. I’m really happy."

Patrick Kujala was crowned the 2015 Pro Champion after an intense finale. The Finn, racing with Bonaldi Motorsport, managed two error-free races to earn the double after the title won in the European Super Trofeo. Kujala won Race One and ended up second in Race Two behind Patric Niederhauser. American Pro champions Richard Antinucci and Edoardo Piscopo finished third for Beverly Hills/O’Gara Motorsport.

Champions also were crowned in the Gallardo classes during an exciting finale. Rattenbury, already involved in the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Young Drivers Program, and American Brandon Gdovic took the honors. It was the second straight World Final title for Rattenbury, who claimed Am honors in 2014 at Sepang, Malaysia.

Compelling on-track competition that determined the best Lamborghini Super Trofeo drivers and teams in the world, combined with the unique luxury of Lamborghini hospitality, ensured the best that sports car racing can offer.

World-class hospitality for competitors and guests is an important part of the event experience in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Guests from various Lamborghini dealerships and other VIPs were entertained at the Lamborghini and Blancpain Village, where gourmet food and drinks were provided in an elegant atmosphere worthy of the Lamborghini and Blancpain brand and lifestyle.

In addition, there were various events on and off the track. The Lamborghini car corral featured more than 40 Lamborghini cars of all models. Participants viewed the cars up close and enjoyed parade laps on the track.  Hot laps also were available to give guests the experience of a lap around Sebring International Raceway in a world-renowned Lamborghini.
