F3.5: Dillmann tops second day of F3.5 test

Former Carlin racer Tom Dillmann was fastest for AVF in both sessions on day two of Formula 3.5 V8 testing at Motorland Aragon.

The Frenchman set the fastest lap of 1m40.941s in the morning, before lowering the benchmark on three successive laps in the afternoon to an eventual 1m40.728s.

"I found myself well suited to the car since my first outing in it," said Dillmann, who set pole position at Jerez for this year's final Formula Renault 3.5 round, but ended the season winless. "The chemistry was there straight away, and we showed that with our laptimes. The base setup was great and we only had to adapt ourselves to the weather conditions, it was a job we accomplished well."

Double 2015 race winner Egor Orudzhev took second on day two, driving for his regular 2015 team Arden. The Russian finished just 0.047s ahead of impressive Formula Renault 2.0 race winner Jake Hughes (Strakka). The Briton led his compatriot and former Koiranen GP FR2.0 team-mate Jack Aitken, who was also running for the Silverstone-based team.

Alfonso Celis Jr., who raced for AVF during 2015, also showed strongly. The Mexican took third in the morning and ended the day fifth overall, despite an off-track moment.

Louis Deletraz completed the top-six for Fortec, which ran Oliver Rowland to this year's FR3.5 title, ahead of his stablemate at Josef Kaufmann Racing in FR2.0 this year, Kevin Jorg.

Dutchman Daniel de Jong returned to the cockpit following injury in a GP2 race at Spa earlier this year. He drove a Charouz-run Lotus to assist in reacclimatising to the cockpit after several months of recovery.
