Report: Viper set to end production

Automotive News

reports that Fiat Chrysler will end production of the Dodge Viper in 2017. The news came out of a new contract signed between the manufacturer and the United Auto Workers union, which includes a clause that says no new vehicle production will take place at FCA's Conner Avenue plant in Detroit, where Vipers are built by hand by a team of some 80 employees.
The second generation of the V10-engined Viper went on sale in 2013, replacing the original model of 1992-2010. Although a critical success, the car has been dogged by disappointing sales –

Automotive News

reports that just 503 Vipers had been sold this year through the month of September, with only 760 sold in all of 2014.
