FE: Minimum pit time could be dropped

Formula E's minimum pit stop time could be removed as early as the third round of the 2015-'16 season if testing of a new safety-belt light is successful.

When drivers make their mandatory car change there is a minimum time for them to travel between the pitlane entry and exit. The new lighting system indicates when safety belts are properly tightened, and is being tested on all of its cars. After running it in pre-season testing at Donington Park, the teams will do so again in Saturday's season-opening Beijing ePrix.

The pit stop time was introduced for safety reasons and will not be replaced by the lighting system unless Formula E is completely satisfied.

"We want to remove that [the minimum pit stop time]," said CEO Alejandro Agag. "I think for the third or fourth race. It'll be great because it will be of the race and if the driver changes really fast they might win by a couple of seconds.

"I think for two or three races we're going to continue like this, we're going to be doing tests."
