HISTORIC: Barber named Savannah Speed Classic Grand Marshal
Skip Barber, one of the leading personalities and most successful entrepreneurs in American road racing, will serve as Grand Marshal at the 2015 Savannah Speed Classic sanctioned by Historic Sportscar Racing and presented by Mingledorff's, Oct. 23 – 25, 2015.
Barber's name is synonymous with sports car racing success. He not only had a great career as a driver, but founded the highly regarded Skip Barber Racing School.
Barber looks forward to sharing his love for all-things racing with fans and enthusiasts this fall both at the Grand Prize of America Road Course and at various festivities across the river in downtown Savannah, Georgia.
"I'm quite honored to be brought to Savannah to Grand Marshal the Speed Classic," said Barber. "I'm happy to 'return,' if you will, to this wonderful city; I'm not sure how many people remember, but the Barber Dodge Pro Series raced on the 1.9-mile Hutchinson Island Circuit in 1997. Derek Hill won the pole and the race, and Rocky Moran, Jr., set fastest lap. Coming back is terrific."
