GP2: Cecotto in at Carlin for Silverstone

Johnny Cecotto Jr. will replace Marco Sorensen in Carlin's GP2 lineup for this weekend's Silverstone round.

Sorensen failed to score a point in the opening four weekends of the 2015 campaign, having switched to Carlin following a part-season with MP Motorsport last year that yielded a victory at Sochi.

"We're very sad to see Marco leave us at such an early stage before he had the chance to fulfil his potential with us," Carlin team boss Trevor Carlin said.  "But we fully understand the decision to now focus on his GT racing activities [with Aston Martin in the World Endurance Championship]. He's a very likeable guy and we wish him lots of luck for the future.

"At such short notice we wanted a driver who could jump in and be confident in the current GP2 car and was capable of delivering a good result."

Cecotto, a veteran of more than 100 GP2 races and a four-time race winner, drove for Hilmer Motorsport in the Barcelona and Monaco rounds this year, taking a best finish of 20th.
