GP3: Ocon loses race two podium finish
Reigning European Formula 3 champion Esteban Ocon has lost his third-place finish in the GP3 sprint race at the Red Bull Ring. It was discovered in post-race technical checks that the undertray of his ART Grand Prix car was illegal.
As it was found not to comply with the height regulations, he was disqualified from the race. This promotes Ghiotto to third place and also has a big impact on the championship standings, extending the Italian's lead at the top.
Based on the original result, Ghiotto had a 10-point advantage over Ocon, but now the Trident driver heads the standings by 17 points from Marvin Kirchhofer.
Jenzer Motorsport driver Matheo Tuscher was also excluded from sixth place for the same reason. These two changes mean that Emil Bernstorff is promoted to fourth place, with Seb Morris jumping from seventh-on-the-road to fifth despite starting the race 19th.
Stewards have also decided to give Carlin driver Antonio Fuoco a three-place grid penalty for hitting teammate Jann Mardenborough at Turn 2 on the first lap of the sprint race. The accident also eliminated Sandy Stuvik.
