Stevens might bid for Caterham wheel

Will Stevens is considering making a sentimental bid for his steering wheel used during his rookie Formula 1 grand prix as Caterham's last rites continue to be served.

After previously testing for the team, Stevens drove for Caterham in the final race of last year in Abu Dhabi as it made a last-ditch bid to save itself from going out of business. The efforts of administrators ultimately failed, forcing them to sell off assets via a number of auctions, some of which have already taken place, but with others to come.

Stevens, now with Manor, is hoping he might still be able to claim a piece of personally significant memorabilia from his short time with the now defunct marque.

"I've actually thought it would be nice to have my steering wheel from my first grand prix in Abu Dhabi," said Stevens. "Clearly there is stuff there from what I've known over the past few years, and if there is anything I'd like to have it would be cool to have my steering wheel from that race to keep.

"I'm not sure it's still around any more, and if it is I'm not sure how much it would even go for. I haven't a clue. But it would be nice to have something for the future which was from my first grand prix.

"I will look into it to see if they still have it, although they might want to sell it as a package with the car. I think the engine went a while ago. But it would just be a nice thing to have for the future, for the memories."

The former Caterham headquarters at Leafield, UK have now been put up for sale by a global real estate agent at the behest of the receivers. The 28-acre site includes 150,000 square feet of buildings, with offers being sought in excess of $8.3 million.
