NASCAR: Penalties hit No. 33 team, Labbe suspended
NASCAR announced that it found a "P4 level" rules infraction on the No. 33 Circle Sport Racing Sprint Cup entry driven at Fontana's Auto Club Speedway by Brian Scott. The infraction related to improper mounting and assembly of the car's truck trailing arm. The suspension piece was made of aluminum instead of the required magnetic steel and was not bolted on correctly, according to the sanctioning body.
As a result of the infraction, crew chief Slugger Labbe was fined $50,000 and suspended for the next three Sprint Cup points races, plus any non-points races or special events which might occur during that time period, and will be on probation through Dec. 31. In addition, car owner Joe Falk – who runs the team in an alliance with Richard Childress Racing – has been docked 25 championship car owner points.
Scott, who is a regular in the XFinity Series and so is ineligible for Sprint Cup points, was not penalized. The team is employing multiple drivers in the car this year.
