F1: "No timeframe" on Alonso crash probe
The FIA says there is no timeframe for when its investigation into McLaren driver Fernando Alonso's Formula 1 testing crash at Barcelona will be complete.
International motorsport's governing body launched an investigation into the crash after Alonso suffered a concussion that has forced him to miss the season-opening Australian Grand Prix this weekend. Speaking to the media in the Melbourne paddock on Thursday, F1 race director Charlie Whiting said that the investigation is continuing, focusing on the cause of the accident and Alonso's medical situation.
"We are still talking to McLaren about anything mechanical, and the medical department is talking to the people who treated him in hospital," he said. "We are working with McLaren and our medical department is still looking at all the information they can find.
"I'm certainly not qualified to comment on anything from a medical perspective. That really is all I can say on that. We can't put a timeframe on it."
Alonso revealed earlier this week that he is "doing everything I can" to return to the cockpit for the second round of the season in Malaysia at the end of the month.
