McLaren juniors to race in British GT

The drivers on McLaren's new young driver program, Ross Wylie and Andrew Watson, will team up for the British GT championship with the VonRyan Racing squad.

British GT4 co-champion Wylie and Ginetta GT4 Supercup frontrunner Watson, 23 and 19 respectively, will share one of two McLaren 650S GT3 contenders to be run by VonRyan in the British series.

Wylie and Watson, whose race seats are not being funded by the British manufacturer, have been chosen for the new initiative by McLaren GT, which gives them the opportunity to take part in its test and development program with the 650S through the season.

McLaren GT boss Andrew Kirkaldy said: "Andrew and Ross have shown themselves to be extremely professional and motivated since joining the young driver program.

"The British GT championship has earned a reputation as one of the most competitive national GT series in Europe, and it will a steep learning curve for them both, but I am confident that they will be a formidable pairing."

VonRyan team boss Dave Ryan said that he was "pleased with the progress of Andrew and Ross" during pre-season testing.

The second car run by VonRyan will be raced by former Porsche Carrera Cup GB frontrunner Euan Hankey and Turkish driver Salih Yoluc, who shared a Ginetta G55 with the Briton in January's Dubai 24 Hours.
