WEC: G-Drive confirms two Ligier-Nissans, shuffled lineup

The Oak Racing-led G-Drive came close to winning the WEC LMP2 title last year, and with a reconfigured lineup and a pair of Nissan-powered Ligier JS P2s at their disposal, the Russian-backed outfit enters 2015 as one of the class favorites.
Oak Racing's lead driver Olivier Pla has moved onto a different opportunity, and has made room for former GP2 standout Sam Bird to slot in alongside G-Drive veterans Roman Rusinov and Julien Canal for the entire championship. The sister entry will feature Gustavo Yacaman, who moves over from Oak's IMSA program, recent Pro Mazda driver Luis Felipe Derani, and Oak veteran and 2013 WEC LMP2 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Ricardo Gonzalez.
For Yacaman, the chance to race on the world stage with G-Drive represents his biggest career opportunity since leaving open-wheel behind at the end of the 2012 Indy Lights championship.
"We had a really good last year, made good relationships with Oak, and it's great to move onto another championship with a manufacturer team as a factory driver," the young Colombian told RACER. "It's going to let me showcase everything I've done so far and hopefully earn a factory LMP1 drive one day."
Yacaman says the team has set their sights on nothing less than the LMP2 title.
"The team should have won the championship last year, and some of the mechanical issues we had are in the place, and we're aiming for a first and second in the championship this year," he noted. "There's a big, expensive testing schedule this year to go after the championships, and I'm working with Onroak Automotive, the parent company for Oak Racing, to help develop the car and we're getting ready for everything to take off."
If there's an interest, the 23-year-old says he'd welcome the opportunity to contest a few non-conflicting IMSA rounds between WEC commitments.
"I hated to miss Daytona, but I really want to be there at Sebring to race, and I know there are some other events I can make without a problem if there are teams that are looking," he added. "It's pretty amazing to be able to race in the WEC, but I'm not turning my back on the TUDOR series. It's a great series and I want to continue there however I can."
