Kruger named British FF champion by court decision

Jayde Kruger has been confirmed as the 2014 British Formula Ford champion, after British racing governing body the Motor Sport Association's national court of appeal ruled in favor of the South African.

The JTR driver beat McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finalist Harrison Scott to the title by six points after a final-round shootout at Brands Hatch last month but his success remained provisional pending an MSA court hearing.

The finale featured a clash between the title rivals early in the second race when Scott attempted to pass Kruger at Druids, an incident which eliminated Scott almost immediately while Kruger went on to win.

The 26-year-old was excluded from the race by the clerk of the course for "driving in a manner incompatible with general safety" but was reinstated when his JTR team appealed, and Falcon's subsequent protest was dismissed on Tuesday (November 18) by the MSA court.

"I don't think before it ever felt like I'd actually won the championship," said Kruger, who won 13 of the season's 30 races. "Now it's a lot more real and I'm really, really happy.

"It's been a long season that's been dragged out a little longer but to think I'll be the last ever Formula Ford champion, that's a big thing, and I'm happy to make it three titles for JTR as well."

Kruger tested a Motorbase Ford Focus NGTC recently but is concentrating on moving into GT racing, with the British GT Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup GB his favoured destinations.

"It's time to look at the GT route," he added. "If you can get a season under your belt and impress you can progress your career and get something where you're paid for it."
