V8 Supercars: Reynolds sets new track record in Bathurst 1000 practice
David Reynolds set the fastest lap ever for a V8 Supercar at Bathurst's four-mile Mount Panorama circuit in practice for this weekend's Bathurst 1000. Ford Falcon driver Reynolds crushed Craig Lowndes' 2010 lap record with a 2min06.2714sec run in practice on the recently resurfaced circuit.
The final 50-minute run of the day at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 saw two red flags, with both Volvo's Robert Dahlgren and Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander involved in separate incidents at The Dipper. Tander's crash – which reportedly suffered both front and rear suspension damage – triggered a red flag late in the session.
With just under five minutes to go, the V8 Supercars field was let loose for a mini-shootout to determine the quickest men for Friday at V8 Supercars' signature race.
Following Reynolds by just 0.109sec was stablemate and defending Bathurst champion Mark Winterbottom.
Fabian Coulthard, Scott McLaughlin, Jason Bright, Shane van Gisbergen, James Courtney, Lowndes, Moffat and Chaz Mostert completed the top 10. Jamie Whincup was down in 17th.
