Solberg joins Race of Champions field
World Rallycross champion Peter Solberg will contest the Race of Champions this year for the first time since 2007.
Solberg claimed his second FIA world title this season when he dominated the inaugural World RX series, adding that crown to his 2003 World Rally Championship success.
"Doing a 60km rally stage is no problem but four laps on a rallycross track with all the other crazy people around you is like a heart attack," said Solberg. "So I really hope that experience can help at the Race of Champions because I want to give it a proper shot and fight hard to win in Barbados.
"There are a lot of good drivers who I respect very much, but it doesn't matter who it is. When I do things I want to do them 110 percent."
Lotus Formula 1 driver (and 2012 RoC winner) Romain Grosjean, V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup, Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and Le Mans 24 Hours legend Tom Kristensen are the other drivers to have committed to this year's RoC so far.
The 2014 event takes place at the Bushy Park track in Barbados on Dec. 13-14, following a decade of stadium locations.
