Michael Schumacher's 15-year-old son, Mick, has started out on the path that took his legendary father to greatness in Formula 1 with a runner-up finish at the FIA World Karting Championships in the KF-Junior category at Essay, France last weekend. After finishing second in the final to young Briton Enaam Ahmed, Schumacher Jr. acknowledged that F1 is his goal.
"Of course I am proud of such an important result," he said after winning four heats leading up to the final. "But it is also clear that it is my goal to be world champion. This is only the beginning of my career."
Michael Schumacher continues his rehabilitation from serious head injuries following his skiing accident last December. Schumacher spent six months in a medically-induced coma, but earlier this month was allowed to leave hospital and return to his home to Lausanne, Switzerland.
There has been no further information from the family since he left hospital, with his manager Sabine Kehm confirming only that he had made "progress" but that "a long and difficult road ahead" remained in the recovery process.
