Piquet secures Formula E drive

Nelson Piquet Jr. will compete in the inaugural Formula E championship for China Racing.

The Brazilian driver has been pursuing a career in U.S. racing since leaving Formula 1 in 2009, competing in NASCAR Truck and Nationwide Series as well as making his Sprint Cup debut at Watkins Glen earlier this month.  Piquet, who is also currently the Global Rallycross championship leader, participated in the final FE pre-season at Donington Park with the Campos Racing-run Chinese squad, with whom he will be racing for in the series.

"I have always enjoyed the challenge of racing in a variety of formulas, so I'm delighted to be able to drive in Formula E," said Piquet. "To be a driver in the very first Formula E championship is a great honour as it's a very interesting new concept in motorsport.

"I'm delighted to be participating with Team China Racing who are looking to establish themselves in the sport."

Occasional GP2 racer Ho-Pin Tung and Antonio Garcia are expected toshare the second vacant seat and complete the FE lineup.
