Indy Lights: Veach snatches win from Brabham

Zach Veach capitalized on a late restart to win this weekend's Indy Lights race at Milwaukee, and close to within eight points of Gabby Chaves in the championship fight.

Veach started from pole and led the opening few laps, but was powerless to resist as Matthew Brabham reeled him in and then drove underneath him to take the lead on lap 35.

From that point Brabham routinely extended his advantage and built up a gap of more than eight sseconds, but just as the race seemed to be settled, Luiz Razia spun while running fourth and hit the wall, bringing out the yellows and closing the field up.

With just four laps remaining at the restart, the green would be Veach's best chance to reclaim the lead, and he made the most of it with a great move to the outside of his Andretti Autosport teammate.

"If we didn't have the restart Matt would have walked away with the victory; he did a really good job in the race," said Veach. "But I got really lucky with that. I'm so happy – we're still in the championship, and a couple of races ago it was looking gloomy for us."

Brabham was forced to be content with second, leaving points leader Chaves to complete the podium in third after spending the afternoon battling with oversteer.

Jack Harvey came into the weekend off the back of a clean sweep at Mid-Ohio, but he struggled to make much progress from his starting spot of sixth and crossed the line in fifth place behind Scott Anderson.
