NASCAR: Ryan Truex sidelined by concussion

Ryan Truex will miss Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan after sustaining concussion in a heavy practice accident.

Truex, younger brother of Cup race winner Martin Truex Jr, crashed at Turn 2 early in Saturday morning's first session. He lost control of his BK Racing Toyota and had a heavy impact with the outside barriers when the car gripped while he was trying to catch the slide, pitching him sharp right.

Although Truex was able to walk away, he was taken to hospital for checks after complaining of head and shoulder pain. The 22-year-old had previously broken his collarbone last April.

Truex was diagnosed with concussion and must await NASCAR clearance to return to racing.

Series veteran JJ Yeley will stand in for him in Sunday's Michigan event. Yeley has made a handful of Cup appearances with the Xxxtreme squad this year alongside his primary program in the Nationwide Series.
