AutoGP: Kiss stripped of Nurburgring win; Sato handed victory

Tamas Pal Kiss has been stripped of

his AutoGP win at the Nurburgring

, after officials decided that he too was guilty of setting a fastest sector time under yellow flags early in the race.

Kiss, who celebrated victory on the podium after most of his major rivals received drive-through penalties for the same offence during the race, was demoted shortly after post-race formalities. The 25-second penalty means victory in fact goes to Kimiya Sato (pictured), ahead of Kevin Giovesi and Markus Pommer.

Kiss has been reclassified fifth following the correction, which means Sato stretches his championship lead over Kiss after all. His lead is now 60 points, and maintaining that after race two would easily be enough to seal the title with the Estoril finale still to come.

Kiss will need to reduce Sato's lead by 11 points in race two to keep the title race alive. He will start the reverse-grid second encounter third, with Sato lining up eighth.
