REUNION: Encounter a Porsche 917 at Monterey

Attendees at this weekend's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have the rare – and fleeting – opportunity to see up close the Porsche 917K that graced the cover of RACER magazine's Great Cars III Issue. The chassis and engine are still in the midst of the conservation process currently being performed by Porsche Motorsport North America Historic Motorsport. The chassis has been stripped down to the frame exposing it for the first time since it actively raced last at Watkins Glen in 1971. It's not likely that the opportunity to get such an intimate view of this, the most iconic of sports cars, for a very long time to come.
