IndyCar: Bourdais quickest for KVSH and Chevrolet in Mid-Ohio FP2

KV Racing bookended IndyCar's timesheet at the end of the second practice session at Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course: Toronto 1 winner Sebastien Bourdais hit the top and teammate Sebastian Saavedra was 22nd and last – despite being less than 1.2sec slower than the four-time champion Frenchman.

Bourdais' Dallara-Chevrolet clocked a 1min06.8271sec lap, which is an average of 121.639mph around this 2.258-mile track, although that time would have put him only P6 in this morning's session. This afternoon, it was enough to edge Andretti Autosport's Carlos Munoz by 0.0539sec and Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt Racing) by a further 0.0255sec.

The session was interrupted once with 21mins to go when Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' ace Simon Pagenaud slid deep into the Turn 4 gravel runoff area, but he emerged on a new set of tires to set his fastest time of the sesssion. It was then ended slightly early – frustratingly, while a lot of drivers were on their fastest runs – when Carlos Huertas, Houston 1 winner, went off and stopped in a dangerous place. He had just set eighth-fastest time, just 0.13sec off his Dale Coyne Racing teammate Justin Wilson (P4), who traditionally is strong here at Mid-Ohio.

Ryan Briscoe, who won here for Penske in 2008, upheld Chip Ganasssi Racing honor with fifth-fastest, but his teammate, last year's Mid-Ohio winner Charlie Kimball, languished in 21st. Mikhail Aleshin did a noteworthy job to be little more than 0.1sec off SPM teammate Pagenaud.

There's a strong feeling that Team Penske has yet to show its hand, with championship leader Helio Castroneves, lead challenger Will Power and series returnee Juan Montoya clocking 11th, 13th and 14th fastest times respectively.

Tomorrow's third practice for the Honda Indy 200 will start at 10 a.m. ET.
