Kubica wants more non-WRC rally outings

Robert Kubica could contest more asphalt rallies in Italy as he prepares for the second half of the World Rally Championship season.

The Polish star dominated last weekend's Rally del Casentino in an A-Style Ford Fiesta RS WRC and the Italian outfit is keen to run the former Formula 1 star on more rallies this year. Prior to Casentino, Kubica had not competed on dry asphalt since taking a Citroen DS3 RRC to ninth overall on last October's Catalunya Rally and believes the additional mileage could be a huge help.

"The more rallies I do, they will for sure be beneficial for me," Kubica said. "It's going to be difficult to do more before [next month's Rally] Germany, but A-Style would like me in the car for a couple more events, but time and budget have to come in.

"If there's an opportunity for sure I would like to do it. Even the small rallies are much better than testing. It's only in the rallies that you do a recce for the stages, then you drive them. I know what to expect for Germany and I know I can tune my pace notes in a better way thanks to this rally."

Despite his strong performance in Arezzo last weekend, Kubica would not be drawn on his chances on the three asphalt WRC rounds to come in Germany, France and Spain.

"It's difficult to say what to expect from the [asphalt] rallies this year," he said. "One event in Italy is not changing the picture. I know where I have to work, where I can improve and, to be honest, I'm in a good mood and I have been for the last couple of months.

"There have been mistakes, but a few of them have been unlucky. I'm just waiting when the experience comes, with that comes consistency and then everything will go in the correct direction."
