GP3: Lynn leads commanding Carlin sweep in Austria
Championship leader Alex Lynn won the third round of the 2014 GP3 Series at the Red Bull Ring with a lights-to-flag performance from pole position to extend his points advantage.
Lynn rocketed off the startline to lead from Carlin teammate Emil Bernstorff. The Red Bull-backed driver set half a dozen fastest laps throughout the race to win by 2.7 seconds over his fellow Brit.
The other front row starter, Alex Fontana, made a poor start and compounded this error by colliding with Patrick Kujala at Turn 1, which turned him sharp left into the second Manor car of Barcelona race two winner Dean Stoneman, who was then collected by Robert Visoiu. All three were out and the mess caused an early safety car.
Richie Stanaway held third early on for Status GP, but was passed by Koiranen's Jimmy Eriksson, which was a legacy of Stanaway making an error at Turn 8 just before the restart. Eriksson made the move stick at Turn 3, and pulled away to the tune of two seconds by the flag.
Behind Stanaway, Marvin Kirchhofer finished fifth, keeping Matheo Tuscher and Nick Yelloly at bay.
Luis Sa Silva finished eighth to claim reversed-grid pole, making it a perfect result for Carlin.
