Zytek announces LMP2 coupe for 2016
British racing car builder Zytek is the latest constructor to commit to building a coupe for the LMP2 prototype category.
Zytek Engineering joins Onroak Automotive with the Ligier JSP2, which is making its race debut at this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours, and ORECA and Honda Performance development, which is designing closed-top cars for next season. Design work on the new Zytek coupe, built to the cost-capped P2 regulations introduced in 2011, has already started and the car will begin testing at the end of next year in advance of sales to customers for the 2016 season.
"The level of interest in the Zytek chassis has been tremendous of late, due to its continued on track success, its driveability and renowned safety record," Zytek boss Bill Gibson said. "The chassis business brings the Zytek brand to the fore and showcases our engines and electronics perfectly.
"We want this to continue and flourish and have made this important decision to go ahead with a coupe that will maintain our presence in the sports car scene for many years to come."
The new car, which has yet to be given a type number, will replace the existing Z11SN open-top P2, which is a revised version of the 07S, introduced in 2007.
