Auto GP: Pommer gets pole in disrupted session
Markus Pommer claimed Auto GP pole position in a Hungaroring session delayed by a downpour.
Q1 took place amid dark clouds, thunder and lightning, and the storm broke just as Q2 was getting underway. That led to red flags after a few minutes of running, followed by a delay of an hour before qualifying could be completed, with an initial attempt to resume the session postponed when the rain increased again.
Super Nova driver Pommer had been quickest in Q1 and got a 1m51.949s lap in during the opening moments of Q2 before the stoppage. That stood for pole position, ahead of Hungarian local hero Tamas Pal Kiss.
Returning reigning champion Vittorio Ghirelli will start fifth, behind row two qualifiers Sam Dejonghe and Michela Cerruti.
Championship leader Kimiya Sato was among the drivers who did not get a good lap in when the track was at its best in the two attempts at Q2. He ended up ninth, just ahead of Kevin Giovesi, the winner of the last round at Paul Ricard a fortnight ago.
