Stefan Rosina scored pole position for the fifth round of the FIA GT Series, in a wet qualifying session at Navarra.
The Slovakian’s teammate in the Blancpain Reiter Lamborghini, Marc Basseng, had set the fastest time in the first segment of qualifying to put the pair through to Superpole.
Thanks to being last on a drying circuit, Rosina was able to edge out Edward Sandstrom’s WRT Audi by 0.065sec. Sandstrom’s teammate Oliver Jarvis was close behind, as he made his FIA GT Series debut, filling in for Rene Rast.
Alvaro Parente was once again quick in his Sebastien Loeb Racing McLaren, taking fourth position ahead of the top Pro-Am qualifier, series debutant Michael Ammermuller in the Novadriver Audi.
Caca Bueno was the best of the BMWs for Team Brazil in sixth. Championship leaders Stephane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor could only manage seventh quickest, after Ortelli spun his WRT Audi on his first of two flying laps.
Michele Rugolo was impressive to take eighth place in his AF Corse Ferrari, despite being in the Gentleman Trophy class. He outqualified championship outsider Alon Day, as neither he nor new teammate Stef Dusseldorp could find pace in HTP’s Mercedes SLS.
The final car meant to go through to superpole was the RJN Nissan of Alex Buncombe and Lucas Ordonez. Both drivers showed pace, but Ordonez lost power approaching the end of the lap, and only got as far as the pitlane entry before the car went up in smoke, ending his involvement in qualifying.
