Ticktum joins Fortescue Zero Formula E team

Fortescue Zero Racing has firmed up its driver line-up for its debut Formula E season with the signing of Dan Ticktum. The British driver will partner compatriot Taylor Barnard at the Australian team, which is entering the series after taking over the former Penske Autosport operation.

“What I love about Fortescue Zero Racing is that they want to do things differently,” Ticktum said. “To get to race and represent Fortescue Zero Racing in its first season is a huge honor. Getting to be part of building a team from scratch is exciting, especially one that’s got a long history of competing and winning.

“It’s not lost on me the support I’ve received to get here and the faith that has been put in me. I am extremely grateful and cannot wait to repay that belief by working with Jim Wright and the whole team to make the 2026/27 season a huge success.”

Ticktum spent the last two seasons driving for Cupra Kiro, having also driven for the team in its previous guises of NIO 333 and ERT in the three seasons prior. He was a two-time winner with the American team, but there were moments where he and the team clashed, and with it opting for Jake Hughes alongside incumbent Pepe Marti for the upcoming season, Ticktum was left searching for a drive.

Before Hughes’ signing, Ticktum was in the frame to remain with Kiro. He also tested for Lola over the summer and was also tentatively linked to another new entrant supported by Porsche before a seat opened up at ambitious Jaguar customer Fortescue after Maximilian Günther moved to Envision Racing.

“Dan is a fierce competitor. He’s fast, fearless, a proven race winner in Formula E and not afraid to push boundaries,” said Fortescue Zero Racing team principal Jim Wright. “At Fortescue, challenging the way things have always been done is part of our DNA.”

“We want that hunger in our garage, matched with the discipline and teamwork needed to deliver results. Dan brings experience, strength and a winning personality to the team.

“Dan has a reputation for being incredibly quick and racing hard. As a new team we have a lot to prove and together we can all show what Fortescue Zero Racing can do.”

With Ticktum and Barnard – who won his first race in the team’s final outing as DS Penske – Fortescue Zero will have one of Formula E’s fastest and most exciting driver line-ups entering the new GEN4 era. And with Jaguar powertrains – whose factory team won more races than any other in the four years of GEN3 – it is expected to have a competitive package right from the outset.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
