Lynn joins McLaren Hypercar program for 2027

McLaren Racing has announced Alex Lynn as its third FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar driver ahead of its debut campaign with the MCL-HY LMDh in 2027. The 33-year-old will join Mikkel Jensen and Laurens Vanthoor in the Woking brand's stable, after finishing the 2026 season with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota.

Lynn, whose departure from Cadillac was announced earlier today, brings extensive single-seater and endurance racing experience to the program. His career highlights include winning the Macau Grand Prix in 2013, the GP3 Series title in 2014 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in both 2017 and 2022, as well as victory in the LMGTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020 and the European Le Mans Series LMP2 championship in 2023.

During his time with Cadillac in the WEC's top class, Lynn delivered several standout performances, including a pole-winning lap for the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans and a drive that helped Hertz Team JOTA secure its first win with the V-Series.R at Interlagos later in the season.

“As a British driver, is there any bigger honor than being a McLaren Racing driver? I don’t think so," Lynn said. "It’s a team name that I am incredibly proud to wear on my chest, and I take great pride and responsibility in representing.

"I don’t underestimate the challenge ahead – I know from experience that WEC and Le Mans are incredibly tough to win and are more competitive today than ever before – but I can already see that Zak [Brown], James [Barclay] and the McLaren Hypercar Team are laying the foundations of what could be a championship-winning team. I couldn’t be more driven towards winning a world title and taking victory at Le Mans for the most iconic racing brand in the world.”

Team principal James Barclay said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to the McLaren Hypercar Team. He is a proven winner with extensive experience at the highest level of endurance racing, and his speed, technical understanding and knowledge of the FIA World Endurance Championship will be a real asset to our program.

"Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability on the biggest stages, including at Le Mans, and his signing adds further strength and depth to an already exciting driver line-up as we prepare for our return to the pinnacle of sports car racing.”
