Joint IMSA/SRO BoP Daytona test canceled

IMSA and the SRO have announced that they will not proceed with a joint Balance of Performance test that was due to take place Dec. 12-13, at the end of IMSA's regular sanctioned off-season test at Daytona International Speedway.

The test was aimed at gathering data for GT3 cars ahead of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 30–31, where at least 30 cars are expected to compete across the GTD Pro and GTD categories.

“Through this process, we discovered that the proposed BoP test would have created substantial unplanned costs for both the manufacturers and customer teams, and we believe it is in our collective best interests to refrain from putting additional strain on their resources at this time,” a statement from both parties issued today read.

“IMSA and SRO remain committed to our technical collaboration through shared data and expertise to support Balance of Performance for the GT3 category. Both organizations will continue working together on viable opportunities to refine and improve our respective BOP processes with the goal of providing a fair and equitable platform for all manufacturers and competitors and close competition for race fans all over the world to enjoy.”

IMSA will thus proceed with a more conventional two-day sanctioned test at Daytona taking place Dec. 10–11 with all four classes.
