NASCAR adjusts superspeedway package for Talladega
NASCAR has tweaked its superspeedway rules package for the Oct. 25 Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.
The package utilized for August's race at Daytona International Speedway will be retained for Talladega, but with the spoiler blade size reduced by an additional half-inch, to 3.5 inches. At Daytona, the original 7-inch spoiler was reduced to 4 inches.
In addition, the stage lengths will be the same as for the spring race at Talladega. The stages will end on lap 98, lap 143 and lap 188. The stage lengths had been previously set at 60-120-188 for the October race.
The spoiler size adjustment and a reduction in horsepower were made with the aim of giving drivers additional maneuverability for the pack racing typical on superspeedways, although drivers' opinions were mixed on the effect of the changes after the August race at Daytona.
