McLaughlin leads abbreviated second Laguna Seca IndyCar practice
Scott McLaughlin shot to the top of a shortened second practice session Saturday morning at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
Scheduled to start at 10am local, the session didn’t begin until 11am due to a massive fence-clearing crash in the preceding Porsche Sprint Cup USA West session that did considerable damage to the barriers at the Corkscrew. The driver, Manuel Gil Del Real, was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
With the significant loss of time, IndyCar’s session was trimmed to 25 minutes where Team Penske’s McLaughlin topped the outing with a 1m10.301s lap in the No. 3 Chevy to lead Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist in the No. 60 Honda (1m10.543s) and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou in the No. 10 Honda (1m10.557s).
Elsewhere, Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s Mick Schumacher placed sixth in the No. 47 Honda (1m10.590s) and double Milwaukee winner Pato O’Ward was 17th in the No. 5 Chevy (1m11.070s).
