Date set for first IndyCar IR28 oval test at IMS
The IndyCar Series’ new Dallara IR28 chassis will undergo its first test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
ECR Chevy driver and 2016 Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi will handle testing duties with the 2028 car on the first day, and Chip Ganassi Racing Honda representative and 2025 Indy 500 winner Alex Palou will complete the test the following day.
IMS says the Turn 2 viewing mounds will be open to the public from 9am-5pm. The first oval test marks the third official outing for the IR28 after Rossi and Palou ran on the IMS road course in August, and Palou returned to spend a few more hours in the dry after the first two days were impacted by rain.
