Arthur completes TC America sweep at Road America

Race 2 of the TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School weekend got underway Saturday morning at Road America, with Braydon Arthur and Andre Castro, the drivers tied atop the championship standings after Friday's opener, setting the tone from the drop of the green flag.

Arthur, starting from the front in the No. 4 JMF Motorsports Toyota GR Corolla TC, and Castro, in the No. 77 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO, went head-to-head into Turn 1, with Castro coming out on top to snatch the early lead away from his championship rival. Castro's advantage at the front proved to be short-lived. Arthur closed the gap in his No. 4 Toyota, pulling away from the field and beginning to build a lead of his own.

Moments later, Shelby Mills had a heart-stopping moment of his own, dipping the No. 18 Fawn Group MS by Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO into the grass just three minutes into the race before continuing on without further drama.

Elsewhere, Matan Rosenberg's difficult weekend continued early, as the No. 78 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO began experiencing issues that eventually forced the car to pit lane. It was a true team effort as the No. 78 crew worked to get the car back out in what was shaping up to be a tough weekend to bounce back from.

Back at the front, Castro found himself under pressure from Michai Stephens, with the pair battling hard approaching Turn 6. Castro's defensive work paid off as he held on to the position, a crucial result given his championship implications. Ahead of them, Arthur continued to set the fastest times through the first sector with a clear track ahead of him.

Justin Gravett, in the No. 8 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO, and Michai Stephens then squared off in a close wheel-to-wheel battle from Turn 5 into Turn 6, with Gravett coming out ahead.

Then, with 13 minutes to go, Stephens made the difficult call to head to pit lane, relinquishing third place. The retirement handed the position back to Gravett, who held on to complete the podium.

Having come into the weekend tied on points, it was a crucial moment in the championship battle, and Arthur emerged a step ahead of the rest of the pack, taking the win and, with it, sole possession of the points lead. Castro crossed the line in second, with Gravett completing the podium in third.

For Arthur, the result was as much a credit to his JMF Motorsports crew as it was to his own pace behind the wheel. Asked about the strength the No. 4 Toyota has shown all weekend, Arthur pointed to the effort going on behind the scenes.

“My job is made easy because of them. They do all the work off the track and they really pull a ton of weight and it’s awesome. I trust them so much. I get in the car every time and I know it’s mechanically perfect so it gives me a lot of confidence to really push and push and push.”

Even with a bit of rain threatening late in the race, Arthur said the changing conditions are all part of what keeps him coming back.

“It’s just fun, no matter what situation you’re in. We almost got some rain and I was honestly hoping for it, but there’s always some kind of challenge here and it’s always a ton of fun.”
