IndyCar delays first Markham practice session as track work continues

The failure by Green Savoree Race Promotions to complete the Markham IndyCar Grand Prix track in time to hold a full Friday of running has been mitigated by a shifting of the 3pm ET practice IndyCar session to a new evening slot of 6-7:30pm ET.

“Practice 1 for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham has been moved to tonight at 6 PM ET,” the series announced. “The session will be televised live on FS1 and FOX One, with coverage also available on INDYCAR Radio, SiriusXM and INDYCAR Live.”

Prior to the announcement, teams were instructed to remain at their transporters and wait on further instructions. A public update was also shared at that time where the series said, “Once the race promoter has completed the track build and IndyCar deems the circuit safe and appropriate for competition, the first on-track session of the weekend will begin.”

It’s unclear whether the various support series on the schedule will be able to run prior to IndyCar’s planned on-track session, or if the IndyCar outing will be rescheduled if more track completion delays arise.
