Paul Miller Racing keeping post-2026 options open

The future beyond the 2026 IMSA season for BMW's GTD Pro partner, Paul Miller Racing, has not yet been defined, team boss Mitchell Simmons has told RACER.

Last weekend at Road America Simmons admitted, amid paddock speculation, that there’s currently no firm plan in place for the team to continue on in GTD Pro.

“There’s a lot of things I can’t say, because there’s a lot of unknowns,” he said. “Right now, we don’t have a contract to carry on. There are other opportunities out there though, so we’re trying to figure out where we want to land. Some of that will be dependent on us, some of it won’t.

“There are a number of things on the table, but right now there’s nothing fully planned. There’s a lot of speculation around, and one thing that’s incorrect is that our team members have been told that we weren’t going to continue next year. We don’t know exactly what it is for 2027 yet, but the crew has never been sat down and told it’s over. That never happened.”

However, RACER understands that while the status of the Paul Miller Racing team in its current guise is not clear for 2027, unconfirmed reports suggest a plan is quickly coming together that will see Simmons and the team’s loyal band of engineers continue on in IMSA as part of a new project.

News of this is expected to be communicated in the coming weeks. It is not yet clear whether or not this new program would involve BMW or see the crew remain in GTD Pro, but sources have indicated that it will serve as a significant boost to the IMSA grid.

The Paul Miller Racing team’s association with the German marque dates back to 2022, when the team switched from racing with Lamborghini in GTD, to BMW with the M4 GT3 platform. It then stepped up to GTD Pro in 2024 and operated two cars in 2025, before scaling back to a single car for the current season.

The team leads the GTD Pro teams’ standings after winning at Daytona and finishing on the podium at Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
