Wickens gets late call-up for first IMSA enduro since 2017

Robert Wickens is set to start his first IMSA endurance race in a decade this weekend at Road America after a late call-up by GTD Corvette team DXDT Racing.

A family emergency forced the the team's regular endurance driver Salih Yoluc to pull out of the six-hour Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix, and team principal Bryan Sellers called on ex-IndyCar racer Wickens to fill the gap. It will be the Canadian’s third IMSA start of the season after starting Sprint races at Long Beach and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in DXDT's No. 36 Corvette. He’ll join regular pairing Charlie Eastwood and Mason Filipi at Elkhart Lake for what will be the event's inaugural running as a six-hour race.

Wickens will race with his Bosch-designed hand control system for the first time in an IMSA long-distance event since the 2017 Rolex 24 At Daytona, the year before an accident during the IndyCar race at Pocono left him with spinal injuries.

The Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix gets underway on Sunday at noon ET.
