Envision to continue running Jaguar powertrains in Formula E's GEN4 era

Envision Racing will once again run Jaguar powertrains in Formula E's GEN4 era, the team and manufacturer have announced.

It makes Envision the first customer team to officially lock in its manufacturer partner for next season, although Andretti previously confirmed it was parting ways with Porsche after four seasons, with a switch to Nissan expected.

Envision and Jaguar came together at the start of GEN3 and have combined for five wins and a further 13 podiums. Meanwhile Jaguar's I-TYPE 7 platform, campaigned this season and last – the GEN3 Evo period of the regulations – has been the series’ most successful drivetrain in terms of race wins with 11 wins so far, one of those coming from Envision, courtesy of Sebastien Buemi in the second race of last year's Monaco E-Prix.

"Continuing our relationship with Jaguar into the GEN4 era is an important step for Envision Racing,” said Envision Racing team principal Sylvain Filippe. “Over the past four seasons we've built a strong technical partnership founded on collaboration, innovation, and a shared ambition to compete at the highest level.

“Together we've celebrated race wins, podiums and a World Championship each, and we believe there is more to come.”

Envision Racing started out life as Virgin Racing, and after a period as DS Automobiles’ works partner, ran Audi powertrains for four seasons, the entirety of GEN2, including the first season under the Envision Racing name.

In its first year with Jaguar, Envision won the 2022-23 teams’ championship as Nick Cassidy came close to claiming the drivers’ crown before he moved onto the works Jaguar team. It also helped Jaguar to the inaugural teams’ trophy the following season (as Jaguar TCS Racing took the teams’ title). The brand currently sits second in the manufacturers’ rankings once again with six races remaining.

“We have had an exceptional relationship with Envision Racing throughout the GEN3 era, and we’re delighted to be continuing this partnership as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship enters its next technological chapter,” said Jaguar TCS Racing team principal and managing director of JLR Motorsport Ian James.

“Over the past four seasons, our shared commitment to performance, innovation and electric racing excellence has delivered race wins, podiums, teams’ world championships and a manufacturers trophy that together we can be very proud of.

“As we move into GEN4, Jaguar’s focus remains on providing a world‑class powertrain and working closely with Envision to ensure both teams can compete at the very front of the grid. We look forward to building on the success we’ve achieved together and continuing to push the boundaries of all-electric racing innovation.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
