O’Ward tops Armstrong in second Road America practice
Pato O’Ward and Marcus Armstrong took turns leading the second practice session at the XPEL Grand Prix. At the end of the run, it was O’Ward in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevy who emerged on top with a best lap of 1m44.003s.
Armstrong, Friday’s fastest driver, settled for second (1m44.110s) in the No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda to lead Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in the No. 3 Chevy (1m44.311s), Penske’s David Malukas in the No. 12 Chevy (1m44.414s), and AJ Foyt Racing’s Caio Collet in the No. 4 Chevy (1m44.417s). Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou completed the top six (1m44.512s) in the No. 10 Honda.
Drivers dealt with windy conditions Saturday morning and also had a few stoppages, with the longest break required for the No. 45 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda which appeared to have an engine problem. Once Louis Foster’s car was cleared from the track, his RLL crew received the machine and got to work on an engine change ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session.
