Papasavvas wins FR Americas Race 2 at Mid-Ohio
Evagoras Papasavvas earned his third Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) win during the final race of the weekend at his home circuit, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Just one month ago, Papasavvas graduated from Loveland High School in the suburbs of Cincinnati.
With a second-place finish, Brady Golan scored his fourth podium of 2026.
For the third time this season, Christian Bogle scored a top-three result. Bogle returned to FR Americas competition this year after running in the series part time in 2021.
Driving for Crosslink Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing, Aidan Schuh (No. 14 Homes For Our Troops / Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3) finished fifth to earn his top result of the season.
Finishing eighth overall, Whitney Strickland won in the Masters Cup Class, earning points in the overall championship, while also leading the Master Cup standings.
Kevin Janzen earned his fifth podium of the season in the Masters Cup class, and dedicated his efforts this weekend to the memory of his mother, who passed away earlier this week.
After setting the fastest lap in Race 1, Cooper Shipman (No. 10 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) led the field down the starting grid, while Saturday’s winner Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N-E-Where Transport / Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3) lined up to his outside. When the lights went out, the two darted ahead, but made contact in Turn 2 slowing the progress of both. The exchange allowed third-place starter Papasavvas (No. 71 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3) to immediately jump to the front of the field, and once there, he never looked back. During the 30-minute race, Papasavvas endured two restarts, including a two-lap dash to the checkered flag. Despite the pressure, he maintained his composure to take the checkered flag.
Golan (No. 40 Toney Driver Development Ligier JS F3) ran second throughout the competition, while Harbir Dass (No. 9 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) ran behind him in third. Crossing the finish line in that order, Solon, Ohio’s Dass fell to 12th on the final results due to a technical violation discovered during post-race tech. As a result, Golan’s Toney Driver Development teammate, Christian Bogle (No. 7 Pelican Energy Consultants / Toney Driver Development Ligier JS F3) advanced to third on the official results.
“This is absolutely unbelievable,” said Papasavvas. “I was able to get the lead in the first lap with a clear track ahead of me. It was just focusing on myself and putting down qualifying lap after qualifying lap. The car felt really good; the Crosslink Motorsports team did an incredible job setting it up. Like I said yesterday, I couldn’t ask for a better team to be on. I’m just super proud and happy to do it here in front of my home crowd. My family and friends are here, my sister, Celia—she wanted a specific shoutout for this race, so, Celia there you go. I hope you’re happy. I’m just happy to do it in front of the home crowd.”
In the Masters Cup, Whitney Strickland (No. 21 TF Companies / Hillenburg Motorsports Ligier JS F3) and Kevin Janzen (No. 24 US Power Group/Data Center Solutions / Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3) once again battled it out on the track. When the checkered flag waved, Strickland edged Janzen by three seconds to win the class.
“First, I want to send my condolences to Kevin [Janzen] on the loss of his mother—I’ve been through that,” said Strickland. “As for today’s race, man, this is such a fun track. We're still trying to figure this car out. But, I feel like maybe later in the season, I might get close to these kids. I’m a couple of hundred yards behind them now, but man, I am hoping to pick a few of them off one day. Today was great fun. I had a good time racing with my teammate [Eric Wisniewski] there, so it was a good race.”
FR Americas returns to the track next weekend for the Racing America at Indianapolis Motor Speedway event, June 18-21.
