New documentary miniseries traces Price's Dakar journey
A new documentary miniseries chronicling Sara Price's Dakar Rally journey, culminating in a run at the 2026 event with the factory Defender team, is coming to Discovery Channel and Discovery+ in the U.S. on June 4.
The first episode of 'Sara Price: Chasing Dakar', which introduced Price and detailed her early career, along with her and the Defender Rally team's preparations for the 2026 Dakar Rally, premiered prior to January's rally.
The second episode – which RACER viewed as part of a private media screening in London on Wednesday – shows the first week of the rally, when Price encountered early troubles that tested her and the Defender team's resilience. The final episode shows the second week of the rally and Price's push for a maiden podium finish on what was her third start in the event.
"Being part of this documentary has given me the chance to reflect on my journey to Defender Rally and my third Dakar entry,” said Price. “Motorsport has shaped my life in ways I’m still discovering, with the highs, the lows, the people who believed in me, and the lessons that I learnt the hard way.
“Sharing my story so openly is both humbling and motivating. I have sacrificed so much on my quest to win Dakar, which has made me push through the hard times and grateful for the good times.
“My hope is that viewers see not only the toughness of the Dakar Rally, but the resilience of the people behind it, and maybe even feel inspired to chase something they love with the same determination.”
This year’s Dakar was the 48th edition of the rally raid and the seventh to take place in Saudi Arabia. It was also the first for Defender Rally, which took part in the Stock class for production-based vehicles with a trio of Defender Dakar D7X-Rs for Price, Stéphane Peterhansel, and Rokas Baciuška. The event was the first of a three-year commitment to contest the full W2RC championship.
“We are incredibly proud to see Defender Rally featured on a global stage through this documentary,” said Ian James, team principal of Defender Rally. “It’s a powerful reflection of the dedication, resilience and unwavering determination shown by both our drivers and the entire team.
“Every challenge we faced at the 2026 Dakar Rally was met with a determination to succeed. Diving into Sara’s journey and understanding what she has gone through to reach her third Dakar Rally really just brings to life her unstoppable nature and we hope that audiences recognize her sheer talent as much as we do.”
The series, narrated by Emmy-winning actress Gillian Anderson, will be available in its entirety in the U.S. from the first Thursday of next month, but starting from May 15 it will be available on HBO Max in the UK (with episode broadcasts coming on TNT Sports 2 on May 15, 16, and 17), on HBO Max in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region on June 8 (with episode broadcasts coming on Eurosport 1 on June 8, 9, and 10), and in Latin America on Warner Brothers Discovery Channels from June 12.
“The Dakar Rally is known for its brutal and exhilarating races across some of the planet’s most inhospitable environments, pushing teams and drivers to the absolute limit,” said Scott Young, EVP at WBD Sports Europe. “As a global motorsport broadcaster committed to shining a light on these stories, we’re excited to go beyond the race action.
“The story of Sara and the commitment of the Defender team to compete in one of the toughest races on earth is enthralling content and we’re delighted to be able to share this with fans.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
