Harvey tops Rookie/Refresher session at IMS Open Test

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Jack Harvey was the fastest of nine drivers who took part in the mandatory Rookies & Refreshers session on Tuesday at the Indy Open Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Harvey’s No. 24 DRR Chevy was comfortably quickest with a best lap of 221.154mph ahead of Meyer Shank Racing’s Helio Castroneves in the No. 06 Meyer Shank Racing Honda (219.862mph), rookie Jacob Abel in the No. 51 Abel Motorsports Chevy (219.794mph), Ed Carpenter in the No. 33 ECR Chevy (219.793mph), AJ Foyt Racing rookie Caio Collet in the No. 4 Chevy (219.767mph), and Ryan Hunter-Reay in the No. 31 Arrow McLaren Chevy (219.692mph).

Dale Coyne Racing rookie Dennis Hauger was seventh in the No. 19 Honda (218.943mph) and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rookie Mick Schumacher was eighth in the No. 47 Honda (217.016mph).

All rookies, barring Hauger, passed their Rookie Orientation Program requirements, but race control has given Hauger permission to complete the final ROP phase during the afternoon session for all approved drivers.

HMD Motorsports/Foyt driver Katherine Legge dealt with car issues and was unable to perform her refresher run. She’ll get another chance to run on Wednesday.
