Foyt crew member OK after pit incident
The notoriously narrow Long Beach pit lane has been the site of many incidents over the years, and Sunday’s running of the Acura Grand Prix was no different as Andretti Global’s Will Power made contact with AJ Foyt Racing crew member Ryan Marzec, whose feet were run over by Power’s No. 26 Honda while the Australian was scrambling to leave his pit box.
Marzec was seen and released by IndyCar Medical, and in the spirit of the Texas-tough team founder, he returned to the Foyt transporter after his feet were bandaged to reduce swelling and helped the No. 4 Chevy crew load and get ready to fly home.
“I feel bad because I clipped the No. 4 crew guy and hurt their race,” Power said of driver Caio Collet’s team member. “It’s tough to go three-wide here, and I don’t think I could have gone any further left. I was at the limit and it just closed up. I didn’t see him at all. You’re focused on the outside lane and what’s ahead, and I must have just caught him.”
