Wickens to run five-race IMSA GTD program with DXDT Racing
Robert Wickens has announced that he will return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, competing in five GTD sprint races for DXDT Racing.
Wickens will share the GTD class No. 36 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R with co-driver Mason Filippi at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, as well as the upcoming sprint rounds at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, VIRginia International Raceway, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will continue to drive a specially-adapted Corvette chassis featuring next-generation hand controls developed by Bosch, in cooperation with General Motors and Pratt Miller Motorsports.
“It’s going to be an exciting season,” Wickens said during his media availability on Tuesday. “I’m hoping to continue the momentum that we started to create in 2025, although it feels like a lifetime ago now since I last drove the car.
“I’m really just excited to continue with DXDT Racing and Corvette, and most importantly, with Bosch, with my electronic braking system and my hand controls that make the whole thing possible. It’s not going to be easy. In a way, I almost felt more prepared last year, even though it was my first race in the Corvette, because the last time I’ve driven the car was at VIR in August.
“We’re confident we have the right people to get up to speed quickly, and hopefully we can have more success in Long Beach.”
Last year marked Wickens’ return to the top IMSA series for the first time since 2017, and the first time since he suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury during the 2018 NTT IndyCar Series race at Pocono Raceway. In his first race weekend behind the wheel of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, he turned in the fastest lap in practice, but accident damage during the race helped relegate Wickens and co-driver Tommy Milner to 15th place at Long Beach.
The 2023 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR co-champion finished all five races for DXDT Racing, recording a best finish of fourth at his home race in CTMP.
Filippi was Wickens’ teammate from 2022 to 2024 at Bryan Herta Autosport, finishing second in the TCR standings in all three years. Wickens and Filippi shared a factory-supported Hyundai Elantra N TCR at last year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours, where they finished 25th overall.
DXDT Racing is coming off a top 10 finish at the most recent Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, where Filippi, Charlie Eastwood, and Salih Yoluç finished ninth in GTD.
