Spire confirms Gabehart as its chief motorsports officer

Spire Motorsports confirmed Saturday that it has hired Chris Gabehart, who will serve as the organization’s chief motorsports officer.

The role is not NASCAR-specific, given that Matt McCall is the organization’s Cup Series competition director. Gabehart served in the same role at Joe Gibbs Racing. However, he left the company after the 2025 season.

Instead, the chief motorsports officer role will involve wherever Spire Motorsports has a racing presence. Of note, the organization fields three full-time teams in the Cup Series, two entries in the Craftsman Truck Series, and a sprint car in High Limit Racing.

The confirmation of Gabehart’s hiring comes months after it was expected he would land with Spire Motorsports. However, after the quiet offseason move, in recent days, Gabehart has been the center of a new lawsuit in the NASCAR industry brought against him by Gibbs.

Joe Gibbs Racing alleges that Gabehart stole its confidential information and trade secrets and shared them with Spire Motorsports. Gabehart has denied JGR's allegations, countering that a forensic investigation of his electronic devices proves the claims to be false, and that Gibbs refused to also review the systems at Spire Motorsports.

Spire Motorsports has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. The team also made no statement or additional comments on Gabehart’s hiring.
