PREMA to miss major IndyCar pre-season event
PREMA Racing will not take part in the IndyCar’s content days scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Indianapolis.
It’s a notable indicator that the Indiana-based squad, which RACER understands is in key negotiations with a new owner, might not be ready to take part in the first race(s) of the year, and could be preparing to launch its season at some point after the curtain-raiser in St. Petersburg set for February 27-March 1.
The annual content days gathering organized by the series is the first and primary assembly for its year-long drivers – and those who’ve been announced for Indy 500-only drives in May – to interact with the media and to film with FOX Sports, which uses the studio footage throughout the season during its broadcasts.
RACER confirmed with the series that while it is highly preferred for all teams and drivers to participate in content days, it is not a requirement, and any absences by PREMA or other teams and drivers would have no effect on their ability to contest the full championship.
The Italian outfit joined IndyCar as its 11th full-time team in 2025 and has endured a trying introduction to the series, complete with financial hardships and the recent departures of its global leadership group, leaving PREMA IndyCar CEO Piers Phillips to seek a new owner to take the team forward without PREMA’s involvement.
If PREMA, under whatever new name it might assume, is able to continue, it’s unclear whether Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman, who are signed to PREMA, would have any affiliation with the team under new ownership.
