Roush, Kaulig and NASCAR set to honor Biffle

RFK Racing will honor its former driver Greg Biffle through the number styling on its cars for the season-opening Daytona 500.

All four cars will have a number style mirroring the No. 16 Biffle used as a Roush driver. Biffle moved into the Cup Series full-time in 2003 for Roush, and all of his 19 career wins came in the No. 16 while driving for the organization. The number styling during Biffle’s career had distinct pointed ends that will be replicated on the RFK Racing cars.

Biffle was one of seven killed in a plane crash in Dec. in Statesville, N.C.

“Greg Biffle was more than a championship driver, he was family,” said RFK Racing co-owner Brad Keselowski. “He helped shape who we are as an organization, and his legacy is woven into this team’s history. Returning to the iconic numeric font that defined so much of his career, and adding the season-long decal to each car, are meaningful ways for us to honor Greg and carry his spirit. We can’t bring him back, but we can honor him on the track the best way we know how, all season long.”

RFK Racing will begin its honor of Biffle with decals on its cars for the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium. The circular decals will be placed above the B-post and read, “The Biff 16, In Loving Memory of Greg Biffle.” The decals will then remain on the cars all season.

Keselowski, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Preece are the three full-time drivers for RFK Racing. Corey LaJoie joins the fold in a fourth car for the Daytona 500.

“Greg Biffle was one of the most special drivers I’ve ever had the privilege of working with,” said team founder Jack Roush. “He gave everything he had to this organization, and together we shared some of the proudest moments in our history. Honoring Greg this season is deeply personal for all of us, and it’s important that we remember the role he played in building this team and the standard he helped set.”

RFK Racing has also set up a memorial in its museum inside the Concord, N.C., race shop. It is available for fan viewing. The memorial includes trophies and other memorabilia as well as the car Biffle drove to his 19th and final Cup Series victory at Michigan International Speedway in June 2013.

Biffle drove for Roush for 19 seasons. In addition to his Cup Series success, Biffle won both a Craftsman Truck and Busch (now O’Reilly Auto Parts) Series championship. He won across all three NASCAR national series.

Kaulig Racing, which currently uses the No. 16 in the Cup Series, will join RFK Racing in honoring Biffle in Daytona. AJ Allmendinger’s car number style will also mirror that of Biffle’s, as well as including his autograph in the graphic.

"Greg Biffle made the No. 16 famous and was a true friend to Kaulig Racing and the whole racing community,” said Kaulig Racing CEO Chris Rice. “This is our way of honoring his incredible career and the person he was. When AJ Allmendinger drives this car at Daytona, we hope fans remember Greg, his family, and all the great memories he gave us."

NASCAR will honor Biffle with a painted design in the grass at Bowman Gray Stadium for the Clash.
