Penske assigns Prados as race engineer for McLaughlin

Team Penske has assigned IndyCar Series veteran and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship-winning race engineer Raul Prados to lead Scott McLaughlin’s No. 3 Chevrolet for the 2026 IndyCar season.

The change comes after McLaughlin’s race engineer Ben Bretzman, who teamed with the New Zealander from 2022-2025, was promoted to the role of engineering manager of competition.

With Bretzman charged with looking after all of the three-car team’s race, performance, and related engineers, team president Jonathan Diuguid shifted Prados from the team’s Porsche Penske Motorsport IMSA GTP effort back to IndyCar, where he spent 2012-2016 with AJ Foyt Racing before joining Penske and focusing heavily on its IMSA programs with Acura and now Porsche.

Under Bretzman’s direction, McLaughlin and the No. 3 Team Penske Chevy program won seven races, as well as pole position at the Indianapolis 500 in 2024 and a pair of third-place finishes in the championship across 2023-2024.

More news regarding engineering assignments for Josef Newgarden’s No. 2 Chevy and the No. 12 Chevy driven by newcomer David Malukas are expected in the coming weeks.
