Albuquerque puts Cadillac in front in fourth Roar session
After Porsche and BMW took turns at the top in the opening three sessions of the 2026 Roar Before The 24, it was Cadillac that finished with the best time in the fourth session this afternoon.
In the warmer trackside temperatures, Filipe Albuquerque put the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R on top with an early 1m36.731s in the hour-long run.
“We are continuing to evolve through the setup and the run plan that we have," Albuquerque said. "It feels good, and we were P1 in that session. It shows that we are doing the right things with the car setup and still [have] a lot to learn. The track is getting hotter, and understanding how the car balance evolves - that’s we are targeting.
"With night practice tonight, it’s a dream car to drive; it always comes alive in the night. But the race never finishes in the night, so I think this was a very important session.”
Albuquerque's time would stand until the end and was a tenth up on the No. 6 Porsche, which ended up second after Kevin Estre's best time. It was not faster, though, than the No. 7 Porsche's flyer from the first session.
Action Express' No. 31 V-Series.R made it two Cadillacs in the top three with a 1m36.986s. The JDC-Miller Porsche, which is running with the 2025 aero, was fourth. The sister WTR Cadillac completed the top five.
Ten of the 11 GTP cars set times. The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie was the odd one out, as the car's engine swap was ongoing throughout the session. It wasn't the only car being worked on while the rest of the field was turning laps, as the AO Racing Rexy Porsche is also still undergoing an engine change.
In the other classes, the No. 2 United Autosports ORECA paced the LMP2 field. Ben Hanley posted a 1m39.922s to go just over a tenth up on the other Gibson-powered 07s in the class.
Tower's example ended up second, and United's No. 22 sister car took third.
The best time across the two GTD classes was set by the Riley Ford Mustang GT3 Evo. Romain Grosjean's 1m47.667s put him a fraction of a second quicker than the fastest GTD PRO entry, the No. 4 Corvette, which had its time set by Nicky Catsburg. The No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang was third in the combined rankings and was spotted undergoing a brake change at its pit box.
There was no major drama in the session, which ran fully green, beyond a handful of cars being spotted by the TV cameras receiving attention from mechanics and a brief spin for the 13 Autosport Corvette.
The third and final session of the day is set to get underway at 6:30 ET. All classes will take part in the two-hour session under the floodlights.
